Approved for disability

A Notice of Award will be mailed to you once the Administrative Law Judge has come to a decision after your hearing. The notice will tell you if you have been approved – either fully or partially. If you are partially approved it usually means the judge did not agree with your date of onset and this can affect the amount of backpay you are owed. The letter will let you know how much your benefits will be and when you can expect to receive them.

Once you are approved you will be contacted by a representative who will ask about any income you have received since applying for disability. You will be asked about workers compensation or unemployment. Receiving income can affect the amount of backpay you will receive. Typically payment will arrive within a month. If there is a delay in receiving payment it might be caused by the district office and the payment center communicating and working out how much backpay you are actually owed.
