Because your local Social Security Administration (SSA) doesn’t publish a list of the local office addresses and phone numbers, this list should prove helpful.  If you have applied for Social Security Disability benefits, it is important that you contact your local office regularly (every 2 to 3 months) to ensure your case is still pending.  Often people's claims are denied and the SSA mistakenly fails to send out a denial letter or the SSA sends the denial to the wrong address.  If your Social Security Disability or SSI claim is denied, you will have 60 days to appeal the decision.  Once your claim has been denied and your 60 day appeal time has passed, it can be very difficult to re-open your claim with a “good cause” showing.  Often, the SSA will require you to re-file a new claim even though it was Social Security’s mistake.  Thus, it is very important to contact SSA regularly for a case status update.  If you run in to this problem, it would be a good idea to call our office toll free at (888) 855-2948.
